PageNews shows headlines, publication times, publisher names and the short summaries that publishers themselves place in their public feeds, each linked to the original article.
Our position
We publish no full articles. RSS and Atom feeds are published by their owners for syndication, and we use them for exactly that, with attribution and a link back to the source in every case. We believe this is the intended use of a public feed.
Thumbnails
Where a feed supplies an image, we generate a small thumbnail from it — 320 by 180 pixels — and serve that copy from our own server alongside the headline. We do this rather than linking directly to the publisher’s image because their originals are often several megabytes, and loading them would make the site slow for readers and send unnecessary traffic to the publisher’s servers.
The thumbnail is a reduced copy. It is deleted when the headline passes out of our retention window, and it is deleted immediately on request. If you would prefer your images not be used this way, tell us and we will stop for your publication.
Commercial reuse
PageNews carries no advertising today, so nothing on this site sits beside a paid placement. We also record, per publisher, whether reuse of their summary text and their images in a commercial context has been cleared — and the default for every publisher is that it has not. If advertising is ever introduced, material from a publisher whose position we have not established stays off those pages: the headline, the publication time, the link and the fact that they covered the event remain, because those are things we observed rather than things we reproduced.
A publisher who wants to grant, refuse or withdraw that permission can simply say so at hello@pagenews.info, and it is recorded against their feed.
If you are a rights holder
If you would prefer your material not appear here, we will remove it. We do not require a formal legal notice and we will not argue the point. Write to us through the contact page with:
- the publication or feed concerned,
- the specific URLs on PageNews if the request is about particular items,
- whether you want specific items removed or the source withdrawn entirely,
- a way to confirm you are authorised to make the request.
What we do
Requests are acted on promptly. Removing a source stops future collection and deletes the stored items for it. Removing individual items suppresses those records. Where a publisher simply wants their feed excluded going forward, that is a configuration change and takes effect on the next scheduled run.
Where the images come from
Every picture on this site is the reduced copy described above, served from our own server. Nothing is loaded from a publisher’s servers while you read a page here, and no full-size image is stored. If the original is moved or removed, our thumbnail remains until the headline passes out of the retention window or we are asked to delete it.
