Privacy Policy
This policy describes what PageNews collects, why, and what we do not collect. It reflects what the software actually does, not a template.
What we collect
Click counts
Links to publishers go straight to the publisher. Your browser is not routed through us on the way, and the destination shown in the link is the one you get.
When you follow one, a small background request tells our server which headline was chosen so a running total per story can be incremented. It carries the headline’s internal number and nothing else. That request is made by JavaScript, so if you have JavaScript switched off the link still works and the click is simply not counted. We store a single running total per story: not who clicked, not when, and nothing that identifies a visit. A short-lived hash of your IP address is kept for up to two days purely so the same click is not counted repeatedly; it cannot be reversed to an address and is deleted automatically.
Newsletter address
If you submit the newsletter form we store the email address, the time of submission and the IP address the request came from. The IP is kept solely to limit abuse of the form. We do not sell, rent or share the list, and it is not passed to any third party.
No briefing has been sent to anyone yet, and there is no mail provider behind the form — the list is stored and unused. Each subscription carries its own unsubscribe link, which works now and will be in every message if a briefing ever starts. Leaving the list marks the address inactive; deleting it entirely takes one message to us.
Server logs
Our hosting provider records standard web server logs — IP address, requested URL, timestamp, user agent — as part of operating the service. These are retained by the host under their own retention policy and are used only for diagnosing faults and abuse.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, so no names, passwords or profiles.
- No advertising or analytics trackers. There are no third-party scripts on this site.
- No cross-site tracking, fingerprinting or advertising identifiers.
- No data is sold or shared with data brokers.
Cookies and local storage
PageNews sets no cookies. A few preferences are kept in your browser's own local storage. None of them ever leaves your device, none is sent to our server, and clearing your browser data removes all of them.
pagenews-theme— whether you chose the light or dark theme.pagenews-textscale— the text size you selected in the top bar.-
pagenews-game-…— one key per game you have played, holding your best score for it. These exist only if you have played a game, and the scores are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Leaving the site
Headlines link to other publishers. Once you arrive there, that publisher's own privacy policy applies and we have no control over or visibility into what they collect. We send no referrer information identifying which of our pages you came from.
Your requests
To have your newsletter address removed, or to ask what we hold about it, write to us through the contact page. Because we hold nothing but the address itself, requests are straightforward and we act on them promptly.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the “last updated” date at the top of this page changes with it.
